Barbara Osborn, Ph.D., is Wow The Crowd's senior strategist. An award-winning writer, media producer and educator, she specializes in strategic, public interest communications.
On that celebrated day at the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. Martin Luther King didn't say, "I have an idea." He said, "I have a dream." That's the difference between bland and brilliant communications. Wow The Crowd helps social justice leaders bend what Dr. King called the long "arc of history" toward justice.
Dr. Osborn spent more than a decade at one of the nation’s preeminent social justice foundations, Liberty Hill. There she built the foundation’s brand, developed communications tools at a historic moment of transformation, and inspired the foundation’s nonprofit grantees to embrace communications’ power as a tool for social change.
She teaches a doctoral seminar in community-based research with Professor Sandra Ball-Rokeach at USC Annenberg and holds a Ph.D. in communications from the University of California San Diego. (Download full bio.)
She has appeared on TV and radio shows including CNN, National Public Radio and public television and continues to be heard weekly in the L.A. market on her radio interview program, Deadline L.A.
Earlier in her career, she worked as a print and radio journalist and video producer. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Daily News, PBS, The History Channel, A&E, CNN, National Public Radio and many other venues.
